Leading equity derivatives attorney adds more dept

to Latham’s corporate finance capability in New York

New York, September 18, 2008…Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Rafal Gawlowski has joined the firm’s New York office. Gawlowski will become a partner in the Corporate Department, effective January 1, 2009, and will practice as counsel until that time. He is widely regarded as one of the most prominent equity derivatives attorneys, with a practice that includes over-the-counter (OTC) corporate equity derivatives, equity structured products, derivative equity finance and equity derivative capital markets transactions.

Gawlowski joins Latham & Watkins from Citigroup where he held senior legal positions, most prominently as Director and Counsel and the Head Attorney for Equity Derivatives Legal (U.S.) for Citi Markets & Banking Division, Citigroup’s Institutional Clients Group, its corporate and investment bank.

Gawlowski graduated summa cum laude from Purchase College, State University of New York in 1997 and received his law degree cum laude from Fordham University School of Law.

Gawlowski’s arrival follows Witold Balaban and Guy Dempsey joining the firm. Balaban, a preeminent derivatives and capital markets partner, recently joined Latham in the New York office from Davis Polk & Wardwell, where he was a partner. Balaban’s practice focuses on complex cross-border capital markets transactions and equity derivatives. Dempsey is a leading practitioner in derivatives and structured products. He joined Latham in New York from Barclays Capital, where he served in a number of capacities, including General Counsel for the Americas, Head of Structured Credit Transaction Management and Chief Operating Officer for Legal, Americas.
